I’ve always said that it would be nice if Father’s Day came first so we could show them how to do it! It has helped to be ever-so-clear about my expectations. “I need a gift first thing in the morning so I’ll have an answer when people ask me what I got for Mother’s Day, okay?” And about five years ago, after a successful MD (I’ve had ten so far), I said “THIS is what I want every single Mother’s Day from now on.” It’s a G.C for a pedicure. Since it’s the beginning of the summer, it’s something I can use, and now he never has to try to think of a gift for me, which is very helpful. For him and for my sanity. I do have a wonderful husband, and it wasn’t worth me spending every Mother’s Day hurt and angry with him. Thanks, Nonie! I completely agree… I have to be very specific about what I want from him. This time, I didn’t tell him *exactly* what to get me, and that’s my fault for not being specific enough. I did tell him that he needed to get me *something* and that I was super-excited for the day. Our marriage is still so new and with a new baby, we’re still learning a lot of things. I do really like how you told him after a good MD that this is how you want it every year.
